Straight from the Heart Wrapping Paper

Filed under: family, general — themommyincharge @ 2:20 pm

The holidays are long gone and we’ve shifted our focus to Valentines Day in this house.  The weather for the past two weeks has done a great job of keeping us cooped up inside.

We’ve already purchased our Valentines Day gifts, so now we are onto fun ways for my daughter to craft with hearts.

We have the gifts now we need a fun way to wrap it up so we made our own, straight from the heart wrapping paper.

We decided to make heart shaped stamps with potatoes.  I was a little worried about cutting out a nicely trimmed heart on a potatoe, so we tried this.

What you need:

  • Half of a potato
  • Heart shaped cookie cutter
  • Paring knife
  • Red paint
  • Paint brush
  • Paper

What to do:

Cut the potato in half.  Press the cookie cutter into the potato.  Stick the paring knife into the side of the potato, until it hits the cookie cutter.  Trim around the cutter.  Remove trimmed potato and the cutter.  Wash and dry the heart shaped potato stamp.

Use the paint brush to paint red paint onto the potatoe and stamp away!

Just to make the wrapping papter a little more interesting we decided to use the cookie cutter as a stamp as well.  Dip the cutter in the paint and create stamps.  The inversion creates a fun looking wrapping paper, made straight from the heart.

Enjoy with your Little Ones,

The Mommy in Charge
