Here Chickie Chickie

Filed under: family, general — themommyincharge @ 1:26 pm

In my search for inspiration for a few awesome Easter Crafts and Activities, I can across these little chickies and decided to give it a try.  I couldn’t get the actual shaping of one pom pom quite right so I adopted my own method.

We ended up with 5 little chicks (so far) that my 3 year has fallen in love with and carries around the house in a recycled egg carton.

This fun little craft is more for mom than tot, but would make a great basket stuffer from the Easter bunny himself!

What you need:

  • Yarn (yellow, white, pink or blue works fine)
  • Scissors
  • Felt or other material for eyes and beak
  • Ribbon for bow or bow tie

What you do:

I followed the method for making the pom poms of More Style than Cash, the only differences being that I made two pom poms instead of one and probably wrapped the yarn around my fingers over 150 times.  I tied the two together pom poms together using the initial center string (one smaller than the other for the head).

I then super glued round eyes and a triangle beak to each Chickie plus one bow (hair bow for the girls and bow ties for the boys).

Place your little chickies in an egg carton for a little added authenticity!

We, and I think many others, are counting down the moments until our itti bitti Tutto cloth diapers arrive at our warehouse. There has been a tonne of excitement as these Australian diapers have come across to North America.

Unfortunately it has been difficult for our Canadian customers to get their hands on them. This is no longer true as The Baby Marketplace, a Canadian company, is now carrying the itti bitti line. Stay tuned as we increase our offering over the next couple of months!

In the meantime, we are giving away one of the fabulous itti bitti Tutto diapers!

I’ll Have My Cake and Eat it Too

Filed under: general — themommyincharge @ 10:21 am

It’s no joke.  Yesterday was our dog’s birthday.  Something that use to mean something, kind of, before I had my daughter.  We use to mention the dog’s birthday, maybe get him a new toy.

Then came along my daughter and not only did I forget about his birthday, I pretty much forgot about him.  Busy with a baby, a job, a business (or two) and poof, a whole day could go by and I might not even talk to the poor dog.

Well needless to say things have settled down in my life.  The baby is 3 1/2 years old, the job only takes a small part of my time and the businesses have been cut back one business.

All that said, the dog is back on my radar.  He’ll never make it back to the status he once had prior to children, but he has made it back to (wo)man’s best friend.

So with that, the new found love for the dog, combined with cabin fever from our ridiculous joke for spring weather, we made a big deal out of the dog’s birthday yesterday.  We baked a cake, wrapped up some new toys and had ourselves a good old birthday party at 6:30 in the morning, before dad went to work.

Here’s the recipe for our Dog Birthday Cake in case you want to treat your four legged friend on his or her next birthday!

  • 1/2 cup white or whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/8 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped carrots
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 cup honey
  • 1 egg

Mix up this delicious batter and bake in a mini loaf pan for 25 minutes at 350 degree.

We iced it up pureed cottage cheese and cinnamon.

Recipe adapted from Dog Birthday Cake Recipes

By all accounts the dog seems to have enjoyed having a birthday cake and eating it too.
